A Step-by-Step on How to Become an HFA-Certified Third Age Instructor
Working with the older population is a rewarding aspect of the fitness field. Now more than ever, Third Age Instructors are in-demand to help maintain physical fitness of the aging population. If you are passionate about fitness and living a healthy lifestyle and desire to turn that into a rewarding career, HFA can help get you there!
In order to become an HFA-certified Third Age Instructor, there are a 3 courses that you need to take in a specific sequential order:
- Fitness Theory Course (a 32 hour course)
- A specialty module (either Group Training or Weight Training)
- Third Age Course (a 16 hour course)
Will I receive a certificate in the end:
You will receive a professional Third Age certificate upon successful completion of the Third Age course. This will be your official certificate of completion. It will come to you in PDF format via email. Please save this to your computer for reference. Please note that there is a $10.00 + GST administration fee for re-issuing certificates should you lose your first issuance.

Options:
These courses can be taken in a classroom setting or fully online. You may choose Group Training as your specialty module if you would like to lead the older population through group training classes or you may choose Weight Training as your specialty module if you would like to eventually work one-on-one with this clientele.
